Oliver Richman

Oliver is a furniture designer & maker based in Cleveland, Ohio. Under the name Oliver Tate Furniture, he designs and builds custom pieces for clients who want something made specifically for them — furniture that makes you reach out and touch it, and then makes you want to talk about why.

His work is driven by exploring how nature and the human form can be captured within a piece of functional, artistic furniture. He draws inspiration from his environment, including the curve of a leaf, the hamstring tendons of a ballerina, and the shadows of mountains. Oliver believes contributing to aesthetic diversity in the built environment is an integral part of human expression.

Every commission begins with a conversation about how you live, what the piece needs to do, and what draws you to certain shapes, forms, or styles. The design follows from that — drawn by hand, refined in the shop, built once and built right.

The process

  1. Discovery. We talk — ideally in person or over a video call — about what you need and what you're drawn to. I ask a lot of questions.
  2. Design. I produce hand sketches and, for complex pieces, a scale drawing. We refine until the form feels right, then I send a written proposal with a fixed price and estimated timeline.
  3. Build. I select the wood personally — grain, figure, and character matter as much as species. I send photos as the piece takes shape in the shop.
  4. Delivery. I personally deliver when locale allows around the Great Lakes region, and ship globally with our trusted logistics partners. White-glove handling, every time.
